“This story was never meant to leave my bedroom....but it did.”

A unique, deeply personal and emotionally taut auto-biographical theatrical narrative set to music. Musical theatre has never seen anything quite like The Break-Up Diet, a new work from singer/songwriter Tamara Williamson.
The Break-Up Diet tells the story of a year in the life of Tamara Williamson as she undergoes a common but nevertheless definingly torturous episode in her life, the ruthlessly fast disintegra- tion of her outwardly perfect marriage. Punctuated by raw guttural songs, original film and Audio chapter intro’s this creates a Multi media experience unlike any that have been done before. After a 5 star reviewed run at Toronto and Edmonton Fringe the Break-Up Diet recently played at The Paradise Theatre in Toronto adding an original film element. Created by Dark Forrest Films with Tamara these films run as the story unwinds adding another tantalizing dimension to this award winning musical.

-TORONTO NOW MAGAZINE.

ALL IT TAKES IS ONE JUICY BETRAYAL.

A 60 MINUTE ALTERNATIVE THEATRE PRODUCTION WITH ORIGINAL MUSIC AND FILM.

The story is relatable and excruciating. It is simple, leaving room for a host of complicated feelings. What may or may not have been a good relationship ends at the onset of the husband’s midlife crisis. Both Williamson and her estranged husband are flawed and make decisions that negatively impact the family dynamic.

Williamson is accompanied by the band Mrs. Torrance. Not only do they play music but they also provide the show’s soundscape, from a door slammed in anger, to a rush of adrenaline, and the anxious, ominous sounds of a person making their way through spiritual darkness. Sarah Fazackerley, the newest addition to the band, stands out as a multi-talented, multi-instrumental singer/songwriter, who plays well off Williamson in short segments of dialogue.

I love performances that mix genres and hybridize forms. Break-Up Diet is the recipient of the 2019 Adams Award for Musical Theatre, but this is not musical theatre like you would expect. It’s raw and alternative. It sugar coats nothing and it does not tidy itself up for a happy ending. If you’ve ever gone through a break-up, this show just might dredge up those dreadful memories.

Tamara's first podcast entitled "Therapy" has already turned many heads. In open therapy session's she ask's many questions that many of us have asked ourselves and gets answers for qualified thinkers. With some hilarious ramblings and rants she put's herself on the slab.

Her second podcast "PAST" gets into her unupbringing wich is anything but ordinary. With names like the Kind of Redonda, Guy Richie, Martin Tielli, Chris Deberg and Beverly Nichols winding there way into her story, its a fun listen.
